NYPD officer injured in struggle with suspect in East Harlem

EAST HARLEM (WABC) -- An NYPD officer has been injured in a struggle with a suspect in East Harlem.

A critical response unit was flagged down by someone who said that their cell phone was just stolen.

Officers jumped out of their vehicle and chased the suspect into a store near E. 123rd Street and 3rd Avenue.

A struggle ensued between the suspect and police. An officer suffered a leg injury in the process.

Fortunately, the injury is not believed to be serious.

The officer will be transported to a local hospital for treatment.
