71-year old woman struck by motorcycle on Hempstead Turnpike

ELMONT (WABC) -- An elderly woman was seriously injured after being struck by a motorcycle on Long Island Wednesday morning.

Nassau County Police say the 71-year old pedestrian was crossing north to south on Hempstead Turnpike east of Meacham Avenue in Elmont at about 5 a.m.

She was hit by a 2003 Harley Davidson.

The 57-year old male driver stayed at the scene.

Both were taken to local hospitals. The woman suffered a serious leg injury, police say, and the motorcycle rider suffered non-life threatening internal injuries.

Police say there was no criminality involved. The vehicle was impounded for safety checks.
