PLAINVIEW, Long Island (WABC) -- The search for a cure transformed a high school gym on Long Island into a barber shop Monday.
Students went bald for St. Patrick's Day - shaving their heads - to raise money for cancer research through the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The line was longer than you'd think. In just three hours, nearly 100 students and teachers from the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District had their heads shaved.
The event was started there four years ago, and has raised tens of thousands of dollars each year to fight childhood cancer.
This year's event was organized by ninth grader, David Fuggini.
"I was always doing it outside of school, so I thought, 'you know, our community doesn't really have anything like this - why not bring it here?'" Fuggini said.
School leaders said the event shows what happens when a community comes together.
