NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police were in pursuit of a stolen car when it ended in a crash on McCarter Highway in Newark, New Jersey.
The car was stolen early Thursday morning, resulting in a police chase that ended with a head-on collision at the intersection of Meeker Avenue and Empire Street.
The sound of the crash caused the staff of Josloff Glass Company to jump into action.
"Yeah, we heard the boom, I can't even describe the boom but we heard it and out of impulse I just ran and locked the other door so we would all be safe," resident Angela Josloff said.
The suspects were surrounded. Each one took off running in different directions. One of the suspects was hit by an unmarked police vehicle. He went down and was taken into custody.
It appeared that the two other suspects ran onto the property of the glass company and were followed by pursuing officers on foot.
One suspect climbed onto a shipping freight container. Both were eventually taken into custody. The final suspect was captured inside of Weequahic Park.
The chase involved New Jersey State Police going after a white BMW until it hit a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata driven by an off-duty member of homeland security who was heading to work when he became the victim of the chase.
Another trooper suffered injuries during the pursuit.
Several state police vehicles were also struck by the BMW which was stolen from Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
Officers were able to arrest three juveniles and one adult.
The New Jersey Attorney General's Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office are reviewing the case for potential charges.
