HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Two reputed gang members are charged with attempted murder after an innocent 7-year-old girl was shot in the abdomen in Harlem.

The gunfire broke out near West 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue just before 3 p.m. on Monday.

Police said Fatou Keita was struck after gang members opened fire in broad daylight. Surveillance video shows the little girl walking with her father who scooped her up when the shots rang out.

Daniel Idowu, 19, and an unidentified 17-year-old are both facing charges of attempted murder. Idowu also faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Surveillance video shows the dad and daughter duck into the entrance of a store after the shooting.

Officers responded quickly and took Keita to the hospital in a patrol car.

Keita was rushed to Harlem Hospital in a patrol car and is recovering.

Police say nine rounds were fired between the two reputed gang members firing on two rivals at the opposite end of the block.

Those bullets didn't hit the intended target, but rather shattered glass and wounded the young girl.

Police said the teen suspects popped out from behind a parked car and started firing into a crowded street.

A witness to the shooting explained the terrifying moments.

"She was just in total shock looking down at her wound, it was just crazy," Angel Casanova said. "Her dad was inconsolable, he was saying that he wished it was him who was shot."

Doctors say Keita is expected to make a full recovery.

On Tuesday, officers brought Keita gifts at the hospital.
