New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill sat down with Bill Ritter for Up Close, discussing her resounding victory over Republican Jack Ciattarelli on Election night, and what she would do on day one as governor.
An excited Sherrill called Tuesday's contest a "huge juggernaut of an election," and said the momentum and energy on the ground matched the wider-than-expected margin over her opponent in the election results, despite the polls predicting a much tighter race.
"We're seeing I moved every single county of all 21 counties to the left... that is a shot across the bow, that is a warning sign to Republicans everywhere that they need actually start taking governing seriously and serving the people of this country, and certainly of New Jersey," she said.
In the interview, Sherrill addressed the ongoing government shutdown, and its impact on SNAP funding and the air traffic controller shortage impacting airports and airlines across the country.
She also talked about the first actions she will take as governor, including freezing rate hikes, entering a tariff lawsuit and expanding the first-time homebuyers program, with the ultimate goal of driving down costs for people in New Jersey.
You can watch Bill Ritter's entire interview with Governor-elect Sherrill in the media player above, and on Up Close Sunday morning at 11.
