UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are searching for a suspect after authorities say he shot his former boss on the Upper West Side on Thursday morning.

The disgruntled former employee was a remote worker and was fired sometime before the shooting around 9:30 a.m.

He confronted his ex-boss at Lincoln Business Machines Inc. on West 68th Street and Columbus Avenue.

The suspect fired at least a half dozen times, striking the victim twice in the leg and shoulder.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside and is expected to survive. His workers were too rattled to speak on camera but told Eyewitness News he's doing fine.

Witnesses say they still can't believe what they saw.

"My co-worker Santiago, he just came in and saw the body outside just all bloodied up and literally all he wanted to do was open up the store, and yeah, it was horrific," said store worker Fabian Barbecho.

Bart Hopkins was working at a wine shop on Columbus Avenue and would later find out that the victim was the same man who had fixed his computers countless times at Lincoln Business Machines.

"Always found him to be very friendly, very well-mannered person, soft-spoken, I couldn't see anybody holding a grudge against the guy, really," Hopkins said.

Meanwhile, the search the for suspect led to temporary subway delays across Manhattan when he fled to the subway station at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

Authorities had the power turned off so officers could walk the tracks in case the suspect was hiding in the subway tunnel north of the station.

Some passengers had to be evacuated and A/B/C/D trains were delayed for the investigation.

Additionally, some subway riders said they were told to lie on the floor of the train as police searched. Subway service was restored shortly after 11 a.m.

Investigators believe the suspect may have left the subway through an emergency exit at 76th Street and they were searching Central Park on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white hat, green jacket, blue underhoodie and holding a black gun in his hand.

The shooting comes one week after two people were shot just blocks away during trick-or-treating hours on Halloween.

The investigation into Thursday morning's shooting is ongoing.
