ASBURY PARK, N.J. (WABC) -- Police have extended the crime scene in New Jersey after a police shootout injured two people in Asbury Park.

Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were on patrol near Springwood and Atkins Avenue when they spotted a man wanted in an investigation. During a pat-down, a gun was discovered on the 19-year-old, identified as Dante Allen, and he fled, firing shots at the officers. The officers fired back, hitting the suspect.

An 8-year-old girl's head was grazed by a bullet inside her home on Springwood Avenue, where she was watching television. It is unclear if the shot came from police or from the suspect. She was treated and released from Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Allen was shot in the leg and is recovering at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
