Man just released from prison shot at Metro-North station in Otisville, NY

OTISVILLE, N.Y. (WABC) -- Two suspects are in custody after a man was shot Thursday morning at a Metro-North station in Orange County.

The shooting at 10 a.m. occurred near the Otisville station, which is where the victim staggered for help from a technician servicing the ticket machine.

The victim had just been released from Otisville State Prison after serving 15 years for first-degree assault. Police said the 33-year-old had been given a train ticket for his trip to a halfway house in Manhattan. Instead, he was picked up in a car.

Troopers arrested Jerome A. Mack, 35, and Edgar Wilson, age 35, on West 97th Street in Manhattan at around 5 p.m. Thursday. They were taken back to Otisville Thursday evening and charged with attempted murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

For hours on Thursday, schools in Otisville operated in lockout mode, with police presence on hand and outdoor activities canceled.

Metro-North service on the Port Jervis line is operating normally. The victim underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

Police have been able to speak to him.
