MASPETH (WABC) -- A burglary suspect is in custody after he allegedly fired shots at police Monday morning in the Maspeth section of Queens.
"He was standing right across the street when the shot was fired at the cop," said Christopher Tabeek, a witness.
Cell phone video captured the moment police wrestled 27-year-old Jeremy Clark to the ground.
From inside her home, just a few doors down, Lisa filled in the details.
"The suspect was bleeding but I don't know if it was self-inflicted or if that happened during the scuffle when they arrested him," said Lisa Jakuvczyk, a witness.
Their normal, quiet routine was thrown into a tailspin Monday morning as teams of NYPD officers surrounded the white home on 56th Avenue.
"There were two police officers with assault rifles in my neighbor's backyards," Jakuvczyk said.
People working in the area heard gunfire and sheltered in place.
"I told everyone, at that point when we saw body amour and M16's and helicopters flying in the air, 'Everyone to get to the back of the building, stop what you're doing and get to the back of the building,'" said Stephen Fanuka, a witness.
Authorities say just after 8 a.m., Clark, walked into #59-55.
The alleged burglar was armed.
A woman and a child live in the home. Neighbors say the woman hid with her little one in the bathroom and managed to call 911.
Newscopter 7 was above as police fanned out in the neighborhood. Police say Clark ran out of the home and fired at police.
At that exact second, Tabeek's employees happened to be walking by.
"My guys dropped to the ground because they were only 30 yards across the street when this happened, they dropped to the ground because they heard a shot fired," Tabeek said.
Witnesses say the suspect seemed disoriented and was mumbling.
Hours later, his baseball cap remained in the exact spot where he was taken down.
Clark was transported to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Charges are pending.
A weapon was recovered.
Police searched for two other people, but they are not believed to be linked to the break in.
Five officers were taken to North Shore University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
