U.S. wins AmeriCup tournament as Lynx's Sylvia Fowles named MVP

Veteran Sylvia Fowles and second-year WNBA players Jordin Canada and Diamond DeShields led the U.S. women's basketball team to a 6-0 record and the AmeriCup tournament championship in Puerto Rico.



The Americans beat Canada 67-46 in the gold medal game on Sunday. Team USA, coached by South Carolina's Dawn Staley, outscored its opponents by an average of 38.7 points per game.



Minnesota Lynx center Fowles, Seattle Storm guard Canada and Chicago Sky guard DeShields were named to the all-tournament team, with Fowles, a three-time Olympian, earning MVP honors. Also on the all-tournament team were two other WNBA players: Chicago's Kayla Alexander of Canada and Minnesota's Damiris Dantas of Brazil.



In the championship game, Fowles and two-time Olympian Tina Charles of the New York Liberty led the Americans with 12 points apiece. Jordin Canada scored 11, and Chicago's Stefanie Dolson had 10 points. Charles and Minnesota's Napheesa Collier, the 2019 WNBA rookie of the year, both had 11 rebounds for the Americans
