Yankees trade for left-hander Clayton Andrews from Brewers

The New York Yankees acquired left-hander Clayton Andrews from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for a 19-year-old pitcher who just got his start in the Dominican Summer League.

Andrews, 27, made his major league debut in 2023, going 0-1 in four relief appearances with a 27.00 ERA. He spent most of last season at Triple-A Nashville, going 6-0 with five saves and a 2.53 ERA.

The Brewers acquired right-hander Joshua Quezada, who made his professional debut in the Dominican Republic in 2023. Quezada went 6-0 with a 3.69 ERA in 11 games (four starts).

To make room on their 40-man roster, the Yankees placed RHP Scott Effross on the 60-day injured list.

Also on Wednesday, the Yankees signed right-hander Lou Trivino to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2025 season.

Trivino, 32, missed the 2023 season with the Yankees after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery in his right elbow in May 2023. He became a free agent in November.

His last full season was in 2022, when he pitched for the Oakland Athletics before being traded to the Yankees in August of that season. He was a combined 2-8 with 11 saves, a 4.53 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 24 walks in 53 innings over 64 relief appearances.

Trivino, selected by Oaklandin the 11th round of the 2013 draft out of Slippery Rock University, pitched for the Athletics from 2018 to 2022. He is 21-25 with 37 saves, a 3.86 ERA, 299 strikeouts and 130 walks in 284 innings over 285 career games (one start).

To make room for Trivino, the Yankees placed outfielder Jasson Dominguez, 21, on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
