Starbucks begins selling beer and wine in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Starbucks is expanding beer and wine sales at its coffee shops, including one in Brooklyn.

After several years of testing alcohol sales at select stores, Starbucks will begin selling beer and wine at close to 100 locations throughout the U.S. this week.

The Starbucks at 154 North Seventh St. in Wiliamburg is selling alcohol as part of "Starbucks Evenings".

The beer and wine sales will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. each day when the store closes.

More than 500 people had signed a petition to stop the sale of alcohol at that location. Community Board 1 also opposed their liquor license that they were approved for last year.

Locations will also offer evening menu items such as truffle mac and cheese and bacon-wrapped dates.

Starbucks has been testing alcohol sales at select stores in the Chicago area since 2012.
