Street closures during the New York City July 4th fireworks

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The following streets will be closed for the Macy's Annual Fireworks Display over the East River from about 9:20 p.m.to 9:50 p.m. Friday.


FDR Highway, both directions from Battery Park Underpass to Houston Street, 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5


South Street, both directions from Montgomery to State streets, 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5


Front Street, from Old Slip to Dover Street, 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5


Eastbound Brooklyn Bridge traffic, 5 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5 (includes walkways on the Bridge)


Westbound Brooklyn Bridge traffic from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5 (includes walkways on the Bridge)

The New York City Police Department recommends that drivers use public transportation and avoid these areas between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.



Spectators can watch from the following places on the FDR drive. Viewing places are first come, first served and will close once full:


Montgomery & South Streets - from the North (viewing along the FDR between Manhattan Bridge and Montgomery Street)


Brooklyn Bridge entry from St. James Pl. (Pearl St) & Wagner Pl. (viewing both north & South of the Brooklyn Bridge)


Murray Bertraum HS track and Field facility - at the base of the Manhattan Bridge entrance at Market & Cherry Streets



Notes:



No large backpacks, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, umbrellas, large coolers or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing area.


Spectators are reminded that dogs are not permitted in the spectator pens.



NYPD Aviation Unit helicopters will fly over the East River between the Verrazano Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge.



PATH trains will operate the Journal Square to 33 Street (via Hoboken) line every 10 minutes for most of the day. Service from Newark to World Trade Center will run every 15 minutes, and will be making all stops.



The World Trade Center and Exchange Place stations will continue service Friday until about 2 a.m. Saturday. The stations will close through 5 a.m. Monday and substitute ferry service will offered.
