Journalist Colleen Hagerty documented the beautiful 'Only in New York' moment as it happened early Sunday morning just after 1:00. Two strangers popped open the wine and started to drink it.
A full bottle of wine just rolled out from under a subway seat and now these 2 strangers popped it open & are drinking it. This is peak NYC pic.twitter.com/lni474aoY9

In a post on Reddit, a friend of Hagerty explains reportedly what went down at the time.
The friend says, 'The bottle did, legitimately, roll out from under the seat. The man in the suit, confused, picked it up and proceeded to pop it. He offered some to the man next to him who grabbed an empty Hennessy bottle from under his seat (not sure if it was his) and the man in the suit poured him some wine into the Hennessy bottle.'
The friend also added that the wine bottle was a pop-top, so there was no corkscrew required.
As you could imagine, the responses to Hagerty's tweet were hysterical.
.@colleenhagerty I was able to open a Rite Aid with what rolled out from under my subway seat #peaknyc pic.twitter.com/0YlBr5N33s

Even though some were skeptical...
@colleenhagerty @pencil_skirts New Yorkers would never drink something that touched a subway floor. Get out.

@colleenhagerty those people are crazy. No way I'm drinking anything that rolls out from under the seat of subway.

Then there was this brilliant idea...
@colleenhagerty What an awesome idea. Hide wine throughout the subway system and see the friendships and connections that form

So what's the moral of this story? Always look under your seat, because you never know what you'll find!
