EAST MEADOW (WABC) -- Police arrested two Uniondale men who allegedly attacked another driver and his 68-year-old father following a traffic accident while driving intoxicated with a child in the backseat.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.

Wardell Lyles, 26, was driving while intoxicated with his 6-year-old daughter in the car and 26-year-old Stephan Boucarut in the passenger seat, according to a police report.

After getting into a car accident, Lyles and Boucarut allegedly approached the other vehicle and assaulted the driver, a 36-year-old male.

Lyles apparently punched the driver in the face and body, and Boucarut also punched him and knocked him to the ground.

Police say the victim's father exited the car in an effort to aide his son, but was also assaulted by the two men.

Lyles' 6-year-old daughter was apparently seated in the rear of the car during the time of the accident and ensuing assault.

The other driver suffered a severe eye injury, while his father sustained contusions and swelling to his face.

Upon police arrival, Lyles and Boucarut, who initially resisted arrest, were placed in custody, and both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Both Lyles and Boucarut are facing charges of second- and third-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Lyles is facing additional charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated (a felony under Leandra's Law), driving while ability impaired by drugs and endangering the welfare of a child.
