"Dogs are family," says Aisha Byrd, the founder and owner of R&B Dog Bakery in Arlington, Texas.
Byrd founded her small business after the passing of her two pups, Reese and Benjamin, as a way to honor their legacies.
"It started because Benjamin actually had a sensitive tummy and it was hard to find treats that he could have," Byrd explains. After a dog-friendly birthday cake that Byrd got him for his first birthday ended up making him ill, she vowed to perfect a recipe herself by the time his second birthday rolled around.
"I found that there were many other families that had dogs that had sensitive tummies, had allergies and had a hard time finding treats, especially birthday cakes and so that's when I decided to start the dog bakery."
Byrd began selling her homemade treats at a local farmer's market before expanding to a permanent brick-and-mortar location, with offerings ranging from dental bones to cake pops to their most popular product, birthday cakes.
As a small business owner, Byrd says the importance of good business insurance can't be overstated.
"As a small business, you have to have insurance. It's not an option; you don't want to take the risk," Byrd says. "I did a lot of research and I read a lot of great reviews about Hiscox."
Byrd has been a Hiscox Business Insurance customer ever since. "They have been there from day one to help me through the whole process," she adds.
"I'm very proud of the success I've had in the DFW area. I've touched a lot of families, I've brought a lot of families together for celebrations," Byrd says of some of her biggest accomplishments.
