A bus driver in Michigan falls asleep at the wheel and blazes a path of destruction.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WABC) -- A Michigan bus driver and his passenger are lucky to be alive after an accident last October.

The driver, 65-year-old Leon Rasheed, plowed into eight cars, one of which was forced into oncoming traffic.

"I fell asleep coming down that hill," said Rasheed, who appeared in court this week to face charges surrounding the incident.

A husband and wife in the first car that was struck sustained serious injuries. Rasheed pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing serious impairment of bodily function, and claims a medical condition was the reason for the crash.

The path of destruction caused by the bus stretched a half-mile long. The lone passenger on the bus walked away without injury.
