Up Close: New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- He's the most recognizable cop in the country.

Bill Bratton's progressive style of community policing redefined law enforcement from coast to coast.

Crime in New York City is at historic laws.

But one of his goals, improving relationships, especially with the African-American community was not always successful.

Last week, Bratton, in a stunning announcement, said he would retire from the NYPD next month. Many had expected him to finish Mayor de Blasio's first term.

This week, the outgoing NYPD Commissioner is our only guest on Up Close.
