Personal trainer accused of touching client

NEW HYDE PARK According to detectives, the incident occurred on January 18, 2008 at approximately 1:15 p.m.

Authorities say the female victim, who is a member of the L.A. Fitness Gym located at 1111 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park, hired a personal trainer who was an employee of the facility.

Police say the trainer, 42-year-old Mark Griffin, of 221-19 131st Avenue, rubbed up against the victim inappropriately while he was giving her guidance and instruction on the various training apparatus and while doing exercises.

At the conclusion of the exercises, Griffin allegedly advised the victim that she needed a massage and provided one, although he is not a licensed massage therapist.

The victim claims the massage quickly became inappropriate and intimate parts of the her body were contacted.

Authorities say Griffin surrendered on Wednesday night and was charged with forcible touching. He is due in court on March 25.

Any other members of the L.A. Fitness Gym who may have been victimized by Griffin are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
