Funeral held for drowned firefighter

NEW YORK Forty-one-year-old Martin Simmons dove into Lake Tahoe in an attempt to rescue his 10-year-old boy last week.

Tragically, his own leg cramped up, and Simmons drowned. His son was saved eventually by someone else.

Simmons worked for Ladder 111 in Bedford-Stuyvesant for 12 years. He is being remembered for his bravery as a firefighter and a father.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons. He was described by a colleague as a "premier firefighter."
