Two window washers rescued

NEW YORK Tommy Florio and Danny Sandler say one of the scaffold's brakes abruptly failed Thursday as they were working at the Metropolitan Tower condominiums, near Carnegie Hall. They hit an emergency brake, which left the scaffold hanging at an angle.

A crowd gathered below as the workers were pulled into the building through a window. They were unhurt, but Florio says the ordeal was "a long half-hour."

The 42-year-old Florio and the 32-year-old Sandler say they went to lunch, then went back to work repairing a window broken during the rescue.

The 78-story tower is at West 56th Street and Sixth Avenue.
