Investigators were interviewing the girl's family as a small memorial was set up outside the house.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the girl lived with her mother, step-father and brother.
Police were told that the girl had been in the shower for a long time and did not respond to knocking on the door early Monday morning, sources said.
The step-father used a ladder to climb through the window, sources said. He found the girl unconscious in the shower.
