Day laborer gets life in boy's slaying

MORRISTOWN, N.J.

Forty-three-year-old Porfirio Jimenez was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.

He was convicted of raping a 10-year-old boy and then beating him to death with a gardening tool in 2001.

Investigators say Jimenez lured Walter Contreras from a park in Morristown, where he had helped the boy feed ducks.

In court, the victim's family expressed their grief and anger.

Jimenez, a day laborer from Honduras, pleaded insanity.

The jury rejected that defense.
