Cinder blocks crash into NYC building

February 12, 2009 3:43:48 PM PST
A construction site mishap sent cinder blocks crashing into an adjacent building, closing West 14th Street at Union Square. The cinder blocks broke away from an 11-story building under construction on West 14 Street just after 9 a.m.

The blocks crashed through the roof of a neighboring office building, prompting the evacuation of the top floor.

West 14th Street was closed between Fifth and Sixth avenues as authorities investigated the mishap.

The Buildings Department was assessing both the damaged building and the building under construction.
