Dinosaurs among auction items

NEW YORK Talk about owning a piece of the past. Well, think back to when you were a kid and how much you may have loved dinosaurs. The, tap into that inner child and check out what's on the auction block.

Izzy Chait has something to sell you, and some of the items are a bit strange. Strange like dinosaurs. One is a mosasaur that was found in Kansas. When it lived, it was a creature of the deep, with long fingers and pointed teeth. It's scary even as a skeleton. So how about buying it?

The clients are not just museums. There are collectors who want pieces like this.

They are being sold at auction, along with some other finds from nature. And some are 100 million years old.

That would be a fossilized turtle's shell. It is an ammonite, sort of like an old-school snail. It may fetch $70,000 or more. But when it comes to the skeletons, there's a little work involved.

You have to assemble them, with tools, thread and lots of stops and starts. In a couple of hours, you've recreated history.

And if you can't fit a whole dinosaur in your house, maybe just stick with a mammoth tusk.

The tusk may get upwards of $50,000. The dinosaurs could fetch $100,000 and up. And by they way, they'll help you assemble it if you buy one.

The Natural History auction will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. at 267 5th Avenue on the 11th Floor (On the corner of 5th Ave. and 29th St.).
