Hot, new nail trend

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN Beyonce showed off the new look on her nails in her hit video "Single Ladies."

The only woman in Manhattan and Brooklyn who can carry out the transformation is at De Lux Gallery. Friends call her "Honey."

"I guess because it's so unique and futuristic and different and ecofriendly, no drying time, walk right out of the door, I guess it does make sense," Honey said.

Honey's friends are calling her around the clock, asking her to Minx their nails. That means applying tiny films to their tips. The decals come in an endless array of patterns. There's even one for the president.

First, she preps the nails. Then, after holding the print under a heating lamp, she applies it. Then she files and smoothes the edges. She compares it to the decals seen at Nascar. The decals are applied with heat. Then the air bubbles and pockets are smoothed out.

Customers can mix up the designs, or keep it simple.

"I decided to do it when I went on vacation to the Caribbean," customer Shireen Burris said. "It's different and I didn't want to go with regular nail polish. This is hot in New York."

The look is also popping up on the pages of Vogue.

It takes about 25 minutes to create, and it costs about $50 for nails and $70 for toes.

But it lasts for weeks, about six weeks, with no smudging or chipping. And you may get a lot of second glances and people asking, "Where did you get that done?"

De Lux is located at 704 Fulton Street in Brooklyn. For more information, visit http://deluxgallery.com/. To reach Honey, visit http://honeybunniekat.com/.
