Bayonne hospital lockout ends

BAYONNE However, the two sides remain at odds over whether Bayonne Medical Center can impose terms of a contract offer workers overwhelmingly rejected last week.

Hospital officials announced their intention to do so after stating that the lockout would end at 7 a.m. Friday. The hospital also said Thursday that it was willing to resume contract negotiations with the Health Professionals and Allied Employees union.

Union spokeswoman Jeanne Otersen said workers would return under the terms of the old contract, which expired May 31. She said the dispute will have to settled by a third party.
