School bus, SUV collide in Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND The bus and an SUV collided on Kingdom Avenue in the Huguenot section just after 3 p.m.

Both vehicles crashed through a fence and ended up on a resident's lawn.

Authorities say 25 kids and two adults were injured. One of the adults was taken to Staten Island University Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The other 26 victims are being evaluated at the scene.

The New York Archdiocese says the bus was from Our Lady Star of the Sea. There were 26 students and a driver on board the bus. There were two people in the SUV. Preliminary reports look like the SUV ran a stop sign and was struck by the bus in front of 69 Kingdom Avenue.

The principal and assistant principal of the school are at the scene, as well as most of the students' parents. All the children will be evaluated at a hospital.

Our Lady Star of the Sea is a Catholic elementary school, pre-k through 8, that's about two blocks from the accident scene at the corner of Amboy Road and Kingdom Avenue. The bus had just left the school when it got into the accident.
