Woman attacked in parking lot

MAHWAH, N.J. Three guests at the hotel discovered Pelcak's badly beaten body as they were walking the grounds at 8:30 this morning. They ran for hotel security.

"Her hands were very bloody. She didn't appear to be moving," one person told us.

Police and rescue were there within minutes. Laura Pelcak had only a weak pulse when she was rushed to Hackensack Medical Center.

Pelcak had been waiting for a co-worker when she was beaten, stabbed, and finally run over, police said.

Investigators scoured the grounds for evidence while several miles away, Clarkstown Police ordered the Nyack School District to lock down Liberty Elementary, where Pelcak's children attend. That move because the person of interest in this case, her ex-husband, Allen Pelcak could not be found.

Pelcak's neighbor also has a child at the school. He didn't realize it was because of an attack on his neighbor.

"I was shocked.... She had just told us that she was going to be moving," Gary Lion said.

Police tracked down Allen Pelcak in Haverstraw later in the day. He was taken into custody for questioning.
