A Rutgers University graduate student accused of triggering worldwide flight delays has pleaded not guilty to charges from a security breach at Newark Liberty International Airport. Haisong Jiang's lawyer entered the innocent plea to the defiant trespassing charge in Municipal Court in Newark Tuesday. The lawyer sought a delay to review surveillance video.
The misdemeanor charge carries a fine of up to $500.
Jiang appeared in a dark suit and sneakers.
Jiang was arrested Jan. 8, days after authorities say he entered a restricted area at the airport, where he was seeing his girlfriend off.
Authorities say the Jan. 3 breach caused the shutdown of a busy terminal and snarled flights worldwide.
