EWN viewers make Jr. Olympic dreams come true

JERSEY CITY They are headed to california.

On Thursday, Eyewitness News reported on the four 11-year-old runners from the New Jersey Police Athletic League who qualified for the Junior Olympics. Their league couldn't afford the $3,300 to send them to the games because of recent budget cuts.

Donations to the PAL have dropped more than a third since the recession hit.

But Eyewitness News viewers had the phone at the PAL in Jersey City ringing off the hook after the story, and they wanted to help out.

Friday morning, because of their generosity, the girls will be on the track competing July 30. And it'll be their first time on a plane.
