Amtrak service disrupted by derailment

NEW YORK

A coal train derailed at Quantico, Va. Thursday afternoon.

The railroad is shut down at Quantico with all tracks blocked.

Friday's service cancellations affect all or portions of the following services: Northeast Regional (Washington - Richmond - Newport News), Silver Service (New York - Miami), Carolinian (New York - Charlotte), Palmetto (New York - Savannah) and the Auto Train (Lorton, Va. - Sanford, Fla.). Limited alternate transportation will be available on some routes.

Amtrak is making outbound calls to those passengers with confirmed reservations on trains affected by the derailment. For information on a specific train, passengers should call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL if they are planning to travel south of Washington tomorrow.

Amtrak is directing passengers to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for schedule information and train status updates.
