Teen fatally shot, 2 others wounded in NJ drive-by

PATERSON

Earlier Friday there was a prayer circle surrounding the blood of the latest shooting victim in Paterson.

Three people have been shot dead inside of a week and several others injured.

The latest was a 14-year-old boy named Jose, was killed out in front of a bodega when someone in a minivan opened fire Thursday night around 10:15 p.m.

Eileen Taylor's nephew Jalil took a bullet to the back. "Everybody was running around everywhere," she said.

Lori Taylor-Sessons says Jalil was bleeding badly. It turns out a bullet tore through his liver, and his kidney and lodged in his lung.

Several hours after the initial shooting, three other people were shot not far away.

Police can't say if the two shooting are connected, but are looking into possible retaliation for a murder earlier this week.

They have arrested and charged 21-year-old Kyziek McCaskill with killing the 14-year-old and shooting Jalil and another teen.

Eileen Taylor saw the mother of the 14-year-old, Jose at the hospital after he died. "I hugged her, and told her to pray. All I could think was that could have been my nephew," she said.

Police continue to investigate all the shootings and are asking anyone with information about either shooting to call them.

The boy's death was the city's 13th homicide this year, matching the total number of murders recorded in Paterson in all of 2009.
