Taxi official says incidences of refusal have jumped by 38 percent.
Drivers who refuse a passenger based on destination currently get slapped with a $200-$350 fine for a first offense. A second offense can lead to a larger fine and a 30-day license suspension.
The proposal on the table would up first offense fines to $500. A second offense within 24 months would increase to $750 and a 30-day suspension.
The current penalty for three offenses within 36 months results in mandatory TLC license revocation. That would not change.
It's up to City Council whether to approve the fine changes.
