Police say 45-year-old Leonard Arzu was involved in a domestic dispute with his mother in their Harlem apartment on Sunday when he threw her to the ground.
EMS responded and took the mother to the hospital after she complained of difficulty breathing.
Police say the mother, identified as Betty Arzu, was pronounced dead on arrival.
The son was arrested at the scene. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.
