Top rated diet plans

NEW YORK

The popular new magazine "U.S. News and World Report'' which also ranks hospitals and colleges, has now given us their list of the top ten diets.

Dr. Jay agrees the number one diet they chose is the best one and he tells us why--if you follow a diet--this is a great one to pick. )

The number one overall diet is the "Dash" diet.

The "Dash" diet is a plan for eating healthy, and while many dieters lose weight on it when they limit calories, they also lower their blood pressure, their cholesterol and their risk for diseases like diabetes and stroke.

But the dash diet is great for overall health and even weight loss.

"You don't eat processed foods you don't eat junk food. You end up eating less calories and losing weight," said Medical Dietician Sotiria Everett.

The diet is popular because it's easy to stay on. It emphasizes fruits and veggies, low fat or non-fat dairy products, and grains.

It limits portions on proteins and fats.

It's one highly recommended in many hospitals and by many health experts and health organizations.

The Dash Diet topped a best overall list of 10 that was followed by the Mediterranean Diet, The Therapeutic Lifestyle Diet from the NIH, and the Weight Watchers diet and others.
