Hearing loss is not just part of growing old anymore.

A study led by Johns Hopkins University found one in five Americans aged 12 and older had hearing loss in at least one ear.

Researchers say listening to loud music and other environmental exposures can contribute to long term hearing damage.

The same study found women and blacks were significantly less likely to have hearing loss at any age, but researchers couldn't explain why.

But no matter your gender, race or age, protect your ears to prevent the process getting faster.
