New York City firefighters catch mugging suspect

NEW YORK

City Councilman James Vacca presented an award Monday to Firefighters John Hessler and Ronny Fuentes.

They are reluctant heroes. Firefighters who caught a mugger red handed.

On Saturday evening members of Ladder 41/Engine 90 were out on a call for a carbon monoxide alarmnear the corner of Waring Ave and Boston Road when they encountered the alleged thief running from his 19-year-old victim.

They quickly switched gears from being New York's bravest to acting like New York's finest chasing the robber down.

The firefighters say they had no fear for their safety and weren't concerned about the suspect possessing a weapon until their heroic deed was over.

Today the firefighters received citations from the city after they pinned the suspect against a fence and called police who hail the arrest as a grand slam.

When Jonathon Paulino was taken into custody, police found items stolen from a 62 year old woman who had been robbed near this location on North Pelham Parkway just after 5 p.m.

The suspect struck again four hours later but this time his luck ran out thanks to some brave firefighters who took action.
