"The gentleman kept arguing with him that he was gonna sit in the front seat. He got in and started beating him. Eventually pulled out a gun," says Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation Of Taxi Drivers.
The gunman shot Ndiaye three times. Even as the driver sped around the corner and then took off on foot, the man reportedly kept firing.
"I grabbed my key and came out and I went to the corner of New York Avenue and looked down toward New York and Atlantic and I could see the police and everything out there and the avenue roped off," says Leonard McNeill, a resident of the area who claims he heard the shots.
Ndiaye was rushed to Kings County Hospital with gunshot wounds to his arm, shoulder and chin.
As his family and fellow drivers asked for help in finding those responsible, they revealed this was not the first time the 42 year-old was shot on the job.
His brother Fallou Ndiaye says he was wounded about 8 years ago but insisted on continuing to drive.
"This is a job that he loved to do and that's what he's doing. It's an honest job. It's a paid job for everybody to do it," he says.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is now offering a one thousand dollar reward for information in this case.
"This guy was out there really trying to kill this driver," says Mateo.
