Slain officer remembered at Brooklyn toy drive

NEW YORK

Police Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch says the children and director of the Brownsville Recreational Center wanted the event to be in honor of the fallen officer.

The union also carried hundreds of donated toys to the children and says such events are important for creating bonds with the community.

"Interacting with New York City police officers, not just in their radio calls in the streets, but here in the gymnasium under good circumstances where New York City police officers are donating toys to them. That's special, especially during these tough economic times," P.B.A. President Lynch said.

The officers were also treated to a performance by the Recreational Center's marching band.
