LI housing worker accused of $10,000 theft

MINEOLA

Nassau County prosecutors say 28-year-old Tiffany Martin was arrested early Thursday. She was awaiting arraignment on grand larceny, welfare fraud and other charges in First District Court in Hempstead. The name of her attorney was not immediately available.

District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the thefts occurred between 2008 and June 2011, when Martin was fired.

Martin worked as a manager for a program that provides government funding to very low-income tenants, the disabled, and the elderly.

She is accused of faking documents that made her eligible for assistance. Prosecutors say she took approximately $10,326.

She was earning $51,360 annually when she was fired.
