Four cars set on fire in Nyack

NYACK, N.Y.

Frightened residents and police are now trying to figure out who set them and why.

Avon Cooper moved quickly because the fire spread so quickly.

Around 2:30 Tuesday morning she saw the flames that had already consumed her car were now threatening to catch her house on fire.

Indeed Cooper was one of four /*Nyack*/ residents whose cars were torched Tuesday morning, all within a couple of blocks.

The house where the fire department was diverted to was where Jeff Lovell's jeep was parked.

Police and arson investigators spent the day on Summit Street collecting evidence and assessing damage.

Police say several cars were broken into.

It's unclear what was used to set some of them ablaze.

But one resident recalls seeing two people carrying a strange object and acting suspiciously two nights ago.

All of which leaves residents of the tight knit neighborhood feeling unsettled.
