2 men honored for subway track save in Brooklyn

NEW YORK

Richard McDonald and John Gearity were given a state senate award Tuesday in Brooklyn.

The men were on their way to work last week when they saw a man lose his balance and fall onto the R train tracks at the 77th Street station in Bay Ridge.

The train was just 200 feet away when the 32-year-old McDonald and 21-year-old Gearity jumped to the rescue.

They were able to pull the man to safety, carrying him over the third rail while also avoiding injury themselves.

State Senator Marty Golden honored the duo with a proclamation Tuesday.
