Spotlight on NYRR Team for Kids Michael Rodgers

NEW YORK

He is now the NYRR VP for Development and Philanthropy, overseeing programs like Team for Kids. A great twist of fate as he is able to give back the gift that has opened so many doors for him.

Rodgers says he's the first person in his family to go to college - because of running. He studied so hard in school to remain eligible for sports teams that he earned an academic scholarship.

Now he oversees the Team for Kids programs that serve 200-thousand school age kids providing great fitness initiatives.

"The money raised by adults funds things like the Mighty Milers program where kids run a half mile to mile per week… the miles accumulate and add up a marathon of miles through school year and they earn medals," Rodgers said.

Last year, Mighty Milers logged 4.5 million miles, 36 miles per kid over the school year.
