Teens arrested in vandalism of Staten Island convent

NEW YORK

Three teenagers are under arrest in connection wtih acts of vandalism at a convent on Staten Island. They were among a group of teens that allegedly broke into the newly built St. Joseph Hill Academy on Monday night, and caused nearly $15,000 in damages. Sal Tirro, president of Tircon General Contractor, which built the convent, says the damage was discovered by his workers Tuesday morning. Tirro says the vandalism included flooding in a number of areas, a broken door, smashed video monitors, and bleach poured on floors. The damage occurred one week before nuns are scheduled to move into the facility, but Tirro said quick repair work will allow them to move in as planned.
