On the Hutchinson River Parkway in Mount Vernon, DOT crews shut down one lane in both directions Sunday morning with several inches of water having accumulated.
Police in Westchester County say flooding caused problems on a roughly eight-mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway early Sunday.
They say a section of the highway between the Sprain Brook Parkway in Bronxville and the county government center in White Plains was closed for a time.
Police say it reopened by about 8 a.m.
There was flooding on Third Avenue in Sunset Park in Brooklyn as storm drains became clogged, snarling traffic.
There was also significant flooding on the Belt Parkway in Springfield Gardens near Farmers Boulevard, forcing the closure of the westbound Belt for about an hour.
The rain caused extensive delays at the deluged Cross Island Parkway at the Throgs Neck Bridge in Queens around 1:30 a.m.
Residents of Howard Beach, Queens were once again dealing with flooded basements, saying it happens each time there are a few inches of rain, and that the city has not responded to their complaints.
Roads were closed due to flooding on Blackwells Mills Causeway in Somerset, New Jersey, and several roads were also shut down in Branchburg and Montgomery.
Numerous accidents were reported in Suffolk County. One major flooding area was reported on Granny Road in Medford where three motorists were caught in rising water at about 3 a.m. A pump truck was called to the scene and the water was removed.
More than two inches of rain fell in many locations Saturday. By Sunday morning waters were beginning to recede, but another round of rain is expected for Sunday afternoon.
A flood watch remains in effect for northern New Jersey, Rockland and Westchester Counties.
Drivers are also being advised to be cautious due to fog. The Goethals Bridge had a 35 mph speed restriction in place Sunday in both directions because of the thick fog.
