BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A part of a construction crane snapped and fell onto a roof in Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon.
It happened 1442 44th St. just after 2:30 p.m.
Department of Buildings inspectors say the boom truck struck the building as the crane was lifting steel I-beams over the building.
The steel beams landed in the backyard of the building next door.
Witnesses say as that crane sat on the roof, it appeared to be precariously dangling off the edge.
"It was scary," said witness Shehroze Sarker. "In the moment it was scary when the crane collapsed, you know the helicopters everything. We thought the building or the crane could fall on people."
The snapped crane damaged at least two top floor units of the brand new four-story building.
The other concern now is how to get that crane off that roof, whether it will fall onto the street or onto the adjacent building.
DOB inspectors though say this should be a relatively easy job.
Inspectors added the building seems stable, but until that's confirmed, they have put a full vacate order in effect.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
