BRIGHTON BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- One person is dead and at least three others were injured in an apartment fire in Brooklyn.

Flames broke out just before 4 a.m. Tuesday on Brighton 2nd Street in the Brighton Beach section.

Fire crews remained on the scene as they worked to put out the flames.

While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, the FDNY noted that an e-bike battery was recovered.

"The rear bedroom where the fire appears to have originated. There was an ebike in the bedroom. At this time we are investigating whether the ebike was involved or it was something else that caused the fire," said Deputy Chief Gregg Hansson, FDNY.

The deputy fire chief says that people using e-bikes or anything using a lithium-ion battery, should use caution with how the charge their batteries.

"Obviously, the e-bike situation has been a big problem across the U.S., especially here in New York City. It has been getting better, we've had less fires involved, so the message is getting out, but there are people still charging these batteries inside their apartment, which is an issue," Hansson said.

The three injured victims are expected to recover.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
