NEW ROCHELLE, New York (WABC) -- Hundreds of people were freezing for a reason, as they took the polar plunge in Westchester County Saturday.

The event took place at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle and helped raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.

More than 800 participants boldly jumped into the icy waters of the Long Island Sound.
